1. Announcing the launch of: Mom, pass the broccoli!
2. Have questions about childrens eating or just want to share your story about your struggles or triumphs. I want to hear them.
3. A secret children know that we don't EATING NEEDN'T BE A STRUGGLE

Finally, all my blood, sweat and tears have given birth to my latest book "Mom, pass the Broccoli"

Mom, Pass the Broccoli=

You can order it from

This is what is written on the back cover:

Are you concerned about your child’s eating habits? Do you want your children to eat healthily but don’t know how to provide them with a nutritious diet? Do you have weight issues of your own and want your child to avoid a similar fate?

If so, you are not alone! Many parents find it a great challenge to encourage healthy eating in their children, or they feel like failures as fizzy drinks and fast foods eclipse vegetables and fruit in the family diet.

In Mom, Pass the Broccoli!, clinical psychologist Cari Corbet-Owen empowers you to develop healthy eating habits in your family. With wit and light-hearted charm, the book explodes the myths surrounding children’s food choices, explores key scientific research into food preferences and the growing problem of childhood obesity, and exposes marketing methods and cultural constructs that encourage unhealthy eating.

Packed with practical tips and workable solutions, the book provides you with the tools to tackle food challenges confidently and effectively so that you, too, can empower your child with healthy eating habits for life!

Do you have stories about your childhood and eating? Do you have struggles with your own children about their eating? Do you have questions about your children's weight that you're dying to ask?

We recently had a conversation between members of our online Mind over Fatter group where one member was having a 'fat week' (which I'm sure many of you can relate to) and said that she felt she was "losing the battle." I had to share with her what I felt I'd learnt in writing Mom, pass the broccoli, so I replied:

"I'm going to let you into a big secret that it took me absolutely years to 'get'...... THERE IS NO BATTLE! We've been conned. We're so used to hearing about the 'battle of the bulge', 'weight wars' etc... etc... that we fully expect this to be difficult. And we've been taught that the battle is waged with calorie counters, diet books, scales, blah, blah, blah.... and it's all a bunch of hooey.

But here's the thing. We weren't born with this so-called 'battle,' we were relaxed and joyous around food.

We listened to our body, but it wasn't a battle - it was just the natural order of things.

We ate when we were hungry and stopped when we had enough, but that wasn't a battle - it was just the natural order of things.

We ran, jumped, skipped and hopped, and that wasn't a battle - it just wasn't natural to be inactive.

The battle ends the moment we decide that there is no battle and we allow ourselves to relax back into doing what once came naturally."

I think that when it comes to staying healthy we have a lot we can learn from children about natural weight management.

The Green Eating Guide

I am a university-bound teenager from the United States. Two years ago I was diagnosed with anorexia, a battle that eventually found me in the hospital.Dieting has robbed me of too much time. I found this website by chance. I've spent a lot of time browsing through articles and reading stories. It has changed my attitude and made me want to be MY ideal weight, not someone else's. Thank you to all the contributors and readers of Mind over Fatter. I deeply appreciate everything you do.(abridged by Cari)

Food Advertising Lies

It's easy in our society today to feel that our value is determined by the number on the scale. I am encouraged to change my mind so I can love myself for who I am not how much I weigh. Thank you so much for your website. It is such an inspiration to me!
