hormonal weight gain and miscarriage

by Och

i have been taking hormones for a week to prevent the miscarriage. It's been three months since the miscarriage. During the short time pregnancy and hormonal treatment i put on almost 20 pounds. I worked out trying to loose the gained pounds without success. How long does hormonal treatment effects last? Do i need to take testosterone or something also to get these pounds go away.

Comments from Cari: Hi there, first let me say that I'm really sorry to hear about your miscarriage, I know how devastating those can be. I wish I could offer you a definitive answer but your questions seem to be more those directed towards a medical doctor and I'm a psychologist. But I'd recommend asking your doctor is he can do some blood work to find out if your hormonal levels are out of whack and if they are how much you have of what hormone because that would obviously five you a starting point as different hormones impact differently on weight and weight gain.

The other thing to take into account is how far along your pregnancy was. The further along you were the more your body would have changed and I always remember a midwife I used to work with saying that it took at least a year for most women to get their bodies back and that's without the extra hormonal treatment.

Another thing to take into account is that you may well have turned to food when you lost your baby. You may have had overwhelming feelings and landed up eating for emotional reasons.

The other advice I'd give you if you're fit and healthy enough is to start doing some exercise if you aren't already. There are so many benefits to fitness.

Kind regards
Cari
