I have a hankering to live more simply, and more in tune with my inner body wisdom. To slow down enough to feel the wind on my face, the soil on my fingers and to sip an unhurried cup of tea in the morning sun, and to live more naturally. Working in my garden I've felt 'full' in a way that is hard to describe given how physically hard I've worked. And yet after 5 hours of swinging a hoe, and turning a fork in the sunshine - I pack away my gardening tools feeling 'full' and satisfied.

I notice I've eaten very little, yet my body hums with happiness, it 's a delicious kind of tired and an ordinary bath becomes gloriously enjoyable. I'd far rather work out in a sunny/cloudy garden than in an air-conditioned gym! It's like it helps me tap into an inner body wisdom.

Laboring is a far cry from taking escalators when I could climb stairs, driving a car when I could walk and where everything is done for me by some or other mechanical means. But I feel amazing from the inside out when I've used my body actively and been in touch with the sun and wind. It's almost as if it evokes a buried inner wisdom about how to take care of my body.

Another part of wanting to return to a simple life is that I just find many of the products on our shelves over-processed and tasteless. Maybe it's because they're belched out of a factory instead of being made with love. So, I've taken to making my own cheese - and from the leftover whey, I make bread or pizza dough, or whey juice or to I pickle fresh veggies, and what's left I feed to my plants.

Last sunday I popped a hot loaf over to my neighbour. I wish you could have seen her face, it filled me with sheer delight to see the joy a simple loaf of bread could bring. She cradled it and when I asked her if she was going to try some she said: "Later, but first I'm going to cuddle it." Her spontaneous reaction could have 'fed' me for a day.

My bread has no fancy wrapper, no bold marketing declaring it to have x or y qualities, or radio jingle declaring it to be better than x or y product. There's just something that tastes honest about a hunk of homemade bread, kneaded by loving hands.

And so, I can't help wondering.... if ate food made with love (instead of additives and preservatives) and if we used our bodies to be active in nature and to allow our inner body wisdom to rule, how many weight problems would we have?? Now, that's food for thought!

Living in tune with your inner body wisdom is what The Coloured Hand eating Guide is all about.

The Green Eating Guide

I am a university-bound teenager from the United States. Two years ago I was diagnosed with anorexia, a battle that eventually found me in the hospital.Dieting has robbed me of too much time. I found this website by chance. I've spent a lot of time browsing through articles and reading stories. It has changed my attitude and made me want to be MY ideal weight, not someone else's. Thank you to all the contributors and readers of Mind over Fatter. I deeply appreciate everything you do.(abridged by Cari)

It's easy in our society today to feel that our value is determined by the number on the scale. I am encouraged to change my mind so I can love myself for who I am not how much I weigh. Thank you so much for your website. It is such an inspiration to me!
